What Should Private Rehab in Colombia Cost?

General educational information only; not a substitute for individualized medical advice.

Price is only useful when inclusions are clear

Two centers can quote similar monthly prices while offering very different staffing, medical access, room types and therapy intensity. Request a written list of what is included and what can generate additional charges.

Ask about the clinical staffing model

Private-pay value depends heavily on how much qualified clinical time the patient actually receives. Compare individual therapy frequency, psychiatrist access, nursing coverage, group size and staff-to-patient ratios.

Look beyond luxury language

Premium accommodation may matter, especially during a long residential stay, but it should not justify weak clinical staffing. Evaluate comfort and clinical substance separately.

International patients should budget for the full episode

Travel, pre-admission medical work, prescriptions, hospital transfers, family travel and aftercare may fall outside the residential fee. A realistic budget includes the full treatment episode, not just the bed.

What affects the price of rehab in Colombia

  • Level of care: medically supervised detox and 24-hour nursing cost more than residential therapy alone.
  • Medical and psychiatric access: how often a physician and psychiatrist actually see each patient.
  • Therapy intensity: the number of individual sessions per week versus mostly group programming.
  • Accommodation: private single rooms versus shared rooms.
  • Length of stay: 30, 60, 90 or 120 days change the total considerably; ask whether longer stays are priced differently.
  • Staff language: fully bilingual clinical teams are less common and often reflected in cost.

What a written treatment quote should include

  • Total program fee and what period it covers
  • Detox or medical stabilization, if needed, and whether it is billed separately
  • Psychiatry, lab tests and medications
  • Individual therapy sessions per week
  • Airport transfers and local transport
  • Family program and aftercare planning
  • Deposit, cancellation and refund terms

Hidden or separate costs to ask about

Medications, hospital or emergency transfers, specialist consultations, extra nights, excursions, and extended aftercare sessions are common exclusions. Ask for them in writing before travel.

Insurance considerations

Colombian private providers usually expect self-payment from international patients. Some US plans offer out-of-network reimbursement; Canadian provincial plans generally do not cover private treatment abroad. Request itemized invoices and clinical summaries that may support a claim. See rehab in Colombia for Americans and Canadians.

Colombia vs United States cost considerations

Lower operating costs in Colombia can make private care more affordable than comparable US programs, but the useful comparison is value — staffing, clinical depth and aftercare — rather than price alone. Read our Colombia vs US rehab comparison.

Questions families should ask

  • Who is the medical director, and what are their credentials?
  • How are medical emergencies handled, and which hospital is used?
  • What happens financially if treatment ends early?
  • What aftercare is included after discharge?
