Dual diagnosis treatment in Colombia

Substance use and mental health belong in the same conversation.

Many patients present with both substance-use problems and psychiatric or psychological symptoms. The planned model is designed to assess and treat those concerns together when within scope.

Integrated assessment

A diagnosis should not be assumed from a marketing intake. The clinical team should distinguish substance-induced symptoms, longstanding mental-health conditions, acute risk and issues that require a different level of care.

Treatment planning

Depending on the patient, care may include psychotherapy, psychiatric consultation, medication management, recovery work, family involvement and behavioral routines that support sleep, mood and functioning.

Scope and referral

Some psychiatric presentations require hospital or specialty services beyond a residential addiction program. Clear exclusion criteria and referral relationships are essential.
