Educational guide

Choosing an Addiction Treatment Center Abroad

General educational information only; not a substitute for individualized medical advice.

Questions to ask before paying

  • What healthcare services is the provider legally authorized to deliver?
  • Who is clinically responsible for the patient?
  • How is withdrawal risk handled?
  • What happens during a psychiatric or medical emergency?
  • How many individual clinical sessions are typical?
  • What is included in the quoted price?
  • What are the refund and early-discharge terms?
  • How is aftercare coordinated in the home country?

Red flags

Be cautious with guaranteed outcomes, pressure to pay immediately, vague medical credentials, promises that every patient receives the same therapy, unclear ownership, hidden extra charges or resistance to discussing emergency procedures.

Travel only after clinical acceptance

Flights should come after a documented clinical screen and admission decision. A center should not encourage a medically unstable person to travel internationally simply to secure a bed.

Need help today?

Colombia Treatment Center is still in development and not yet admitting patients. If you or someone you love needs support now, our sister program in Costa Rica, Costa Rica Treatment Center, may be able to help.
