Rehab in Colombia: A Guide for International Patients

General educational information only; not a substitute for individualized medical advice.

Start with clinical scope, not scenery

A beautiful setting can support engagement, but it does not tell you whether a program can safely manage your needs. Ask what services are actually habilitated, who provides medical oversight, how psychiatric emergencies are handled and what conditions the center cannot accept.

Verify regulation and provider status

Colombia regulates health-service providers through its registration and habilitation framework. In August 2026, Resolution 1732 updated the Sistema Único de Habilitación and replaced Resolution 3100 of 2019. Before admitting, a patient should verify the provider and the relevant services.

Understand the treatment model

Ask how individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatry, family work, medication management and recovery planning fit together. Programs should be able to explain why they use specific interventions rather than simply listing modalities.

Plan the return home

An international program should help you transition to continuing care where you live. Ask what happens with medications, psychiatric follow-up, therapy, peer support and family expectations after discharge.

Need help today?

Colombia Treatment Center is still in development and not yet admitting patients. If you or someone you love needs support now, our sister program in Costa Rica, Costa Rica Treatment Center, may be able to help.
